Atas nama PBB, tanggal 27 Mei 2009 yang lalu UNESCO telah meluncurkan situs web baru berupa situs universitas online gratis, www.portal.unesco.org/ci/en.

Universitas online gratis ini disebut-sebut sebagai yang pertama di dunia. Untuk mendukung keberlanjutan program ini, UN Global Alliance for Information and Commucation Technology and Development (GAID) telah memberi komitmennya untuk memajukan dunia pendidikan. Program kuliah ini dirancang gratis, mulai dari biaya kuliah sampai mengakses materi kuliahnya.

Untuk tahun pertama, dibuka dua jurusan, yaitu Business Administration dan Computer Science. Pendirinya adalah Shai Reshef, yang mengatakan bahwa latar belakang didirikannya universitas ini adalah bahwa saat ini terdapat ratusan juta orang di dunia yang tak mungkin belajar di perguruan tinggi, baik karena keterbatasan biaya, infrastruktur maupun waktu. Menurut Reshef, untuk orang-orang seperti inilah universitas ini dibangun. Belajar bisa dari rumah dengan memanfaatkan teknologi open source gratis, materi yang dapat diakses gratis, dan pendidikan peer to peer atau pengajaran berbasis online jarak jauh.

Minggu lalu saya memutuskan membeli laptop baru. Pilihan jatuh pada Fujitsu Esprimo Mobile U9200. Sebelumnya, selama dua tahun saya memakai Compaq Presario M2000. Layarnya yang berukuran 12″ menyebabkan beratnya tidak lebih dari 2kg sehingga ringan dibawa.

Dengan laptop baru ini berarti salah satu resolusi saya di tahun 2008 sudah terpenuhi. Semoga laptop baru ini akan menjadi awal tercapainya resolusi saya yang lain.
